Heidelberg Scott Pit Information Session: Monday, June 23

We want to be sure everyone is aware that Heidelberg is holding an initial information session about its plans for the Scott property.  It is a virtual online session on Monday, June 23rd from 7 – 8pm.  You need to register in advance and can do that through this link.

According to Heidelberg, they intend to introduce the project as well as provide an overview of the NRCB application process.  They also indicated that they intend to hold an in-person engagement session in the fall.

The NRCB mandates that Heidelberg undertake public engagement and report on the issues raised at those sessions and how they responded to those issues.  If people don’t raise concerns, they don’t have to do anything about them.  As a result, it is critically important that as many of us as possible attend the June 23rd session, ask questions, and raise concerns.

While most of you have lots of questions about Heidelberg’s proposed operations, here are some of the more procedural issues that should also be raised at this initial meeting:

• What are the details of their engagement plans?

  • This one-hour online session and one in-person session are not adequate to provide residents with a meaningful opportunity to raise their concerns.

• When will they release their technical studies?

  • Residents need adequate time to have our own technical experts assess Heidelberg’s technical studies.

• When will engagement sessions be scheduled after their technical studies are released?

  • The NRCB requires Heidelberg to document how public input was incorporated into their development plans, impact mitigation and monitoring.  To do this, they need to hold engagement sessions after residents have had time to assess their technical studies.
